I dressed like a homeless man and walked into my own restaurant to see how my employees treated people who couldn’t afford a decent meal. I expected some unfriendly attitudes and perhaps a few rude remarks. Instead, I uncovered something so alarming that I eventually had to contact the police

I nodded.

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Then come with me. There’s a lovely table by the window.”

Brittany immediately objected.

“Josie, those seats are reserved!”

Josie calmly looked toward the empty tables.

“Then show me who’s reserved them.”

Brittany fell silent.

Without another word, Josie guided me to a comfortable table beside the window.

A few minutes later, she returned carrying a generous bowl of hot chicken-and-dumpling soup, fresh bread, and a cup of coffee.

She placed everything carefully in front of me.

“Here you go, sir. Enjoy your lunch.”

I reached into my pocket and placed my four dollars on the table.

Josie gently shook her head.

“Keep it. Today’s meal is my treat.”

“But I don’t have enough to pay for all this.”

“That’s okay,” she replied softly. “Someone helped me once when I had nothing. I promised myself I’d do the same for someone else someday.”
