I carried a baby for my sister and her husband, but the moment they saw the little girl, they broke down and said, “This is not the child we wanted.” Right then, I decided to teach them a lesson they would never forget.

“I never asked for your blood money,” I spat back, locking eyes with my sister one last time. “I only ever wanted my sister back, but it turns out neither of you ever possessed a human soul.”

As I turned the brass doorknob to leave, Samantha called out from behind me, her tone turning venomous. “You will live to deeply regret this decision, Alison! She is never going to thank you when she grows up and discovers the truth about how she came into this world!”

I paused at the open doorway, letting the cool outdoor breeze wash over my face before looking back over my shoulder. “The truth she learns will be that I chose to love her unconditionally when her biological parents saw her as nothing more than a failed financial investment.”
