A PTA Mom Took Over My Daughter’s Halloween Bake-Sale Table—

He frowned.

“Really? It looks pretty dark.”

“Well, it’s… very dark milk chocolate.” Karen waved a hand. “Oh, they’re just ordinary cookies.”

“So you don’t know?” the woman who had asked about the purple frosting said.

“Well, I wouldn’t worry about it.”

The woman put the box down.

“I have a serious allergy. I think I’ll pass.”

Meanwhile, our line kept growing.

Across the room, I heard Karen hiss at Madison.

“Will you please smile? You’re embarrassing me!”

A little boy approached her table.

“Excuse me, are those ghosts supposed to be sad?”

Karen finally snapped.

“They’re cookies, young man. You’re supposed to eat them, not interview them!”

The boy hurried over to us.

“Can I have a cookie that isn’t angry at me?”

“Absolutely,” I said, handing him a smiling ghost.

Lily covered her mouth, giggling.

Unfortunately, Karen spotted us laughing.
