A PTA Mom Took Over My Daughter’s Halloween Bake-Sale Table—and Told Her to Stand in the Back
When a PTA mom pushed my autistic daughter aside and took over her bake-sale table, I decided to let her enjoy her little victory. She had no idea what was hiding in my purse.
My 14-year-old daughter, Lily, has always been happiest in the kitchen.
Lily has autism, and talking to strangers isn’t always easy for her. But give her flour, frosting, and a piping bag, and she’s in her element. She can spend hours working on the tiniest details.
“Mom, does this ghost look scared or surprised?” she asked me one evening, holding up a cookie.
“Honestly? It looks like it just saw our electricity bill.”
Lily burst out laughing and added two tiny eyebrows.
About a year ago, we started a small online bakery together. Lily invented the recipes and baked everything, while I handled orders and deliveries.
