A black car had stopped outside.
Then Eleanor whispered:
"And he's not coming to ask you questions."
The call disconnected.

I immediately contacted Detective Grant.
She told me officers were already nearby and advised me not to open the door.
I moved away from the windows.
The black car remained parked outside.
For several minutes, nothing happened.
Then a man stepped out.
Daniel Pierce.
My attorney.
He approached the front door carrying a leather briefcase.
He rang the bell.
Once.
Twice.
Then he called through the door.
"Gloria, I know you're home."
I didn't answer.
He continued.
"We need to discuss Eleanor."
My hands shook.
Then he said something that made my stomach tighten.
"I know she called you."
I stood frozen.
"Gloria, she's lying to you."
A pause.
"Just like your husband did."
I stared at the door.
Then Daniel lowered his voice.
"Henry left you something before he died."
