Part 2: My son h.i.t me 30 times in front of his wife… so the next morning, while he sat in his office, I sold the house he thought was his.

My heart stopped.

My husband had always told me we started with money we'd saved.

Had that been another lie?

Then Eleanor began crying again.

"But Gloria, that's not the worst part."

I gripped the phone.

"What is?"

She swallowed.

"The six million wasn't supposed to go to Ashcroft."

My stomach tightened.

"Then where?"

Her voice trembled.

"Daniel was supposed to transfer it into a protected account for me."

I couldn't breathe.

"Why?"

Eleanor hesitated.

Then whispered:

"Because he promised to help me recover what Malcolm stole."

I stared at the wall.

Malcolm.

Daniel.

Trevor.

Kristen.

And my own sister.

Everyone had been telling a different story.

Everyone had a reason to lie.

Then Eleanor said something that made my blood run cold.

"Gloria, you need to get out of your house."

My heart pounded.

"Why?"

Her voice broke.

"Because Daniel knows you've seen the bank footage."

I looked toward the front window.
