Part 2: I discovered my husband was having an affair with my best friend while we were all on the same airplane—and neither of them knew I was there. Instead of confronting them, I sent a small, beautifully wrapped gift to their seats.

“What?”

Megan's face emptied.

“You knew?”

“No.”

He looked at her.

“You?”

“No.”

Nora nodded.

“Lena made me promise not to tell anyone unless the successor clause became relevant.”

Dawson stared at the will.

“Why me?”

Nora reached into her briefcase.

“Lena explained.”

A sealed statement.

Dawson read aloud.

Dawson has never asked anything from me.

He has loaned me money twice and accepted repayment once.

Megan looked stunned.

Dawson continued.

When Oliver was born, Dawson came to the hospital because Megan couldn't get a flight.

He held Oliver for three hours while I slept.

He changed a diaper badly.

I trust people who are willing to be bad at something without pretending they already know how.

Dawson covered his mouth.

I had never seen him cry before that day.

Lena continued:

My sister loves my son.

My mother loves him.

Ryan may someday love him too.

But Megan and Mom both sometimes confuse love with deciding.
