Part 2: I discovered my husband was having an affair with my best friend while we were all on the same airplane—and neither of them knew I was there. Instead of confronting them, I sent a small, beautifully wrapped gift to their seats.

Ryan stared.

“I would never.”

Nora gave him a look.

“You forged your wife's signature on a mortgage while sleeping with your son's aunt.”

He went silent.

Good.

Nora continued.

Judith had been pushing for months to use Oliver's trust to buy a much larger house.

She called it:

“Oliver's permanent family home.”

The proposed house cost nearly $1.4 million.

Judith and her husband would live there too.

Nora refused.

The trust was for Oliver.

Not a family real-estate upgrade.

Megan whispered:

“I thought Mom gave up on that.”

“She did not.”

Then Nora opened Lena's will.

“This is the part none of you have read carefully enough.”

She turned to a page.

Megan had been named Oliver's preferred guardian.

Expected.

Then:

If Megan became unable, unwilling, or unsuitable—

the successor guardian was not Judith.

Not Ryan.

Not another Harper relative.

It was:

Dawson Blake.

The corridor went silent.

Dawson actually laughed.
