My wife left me for her 28-year-old kickboxing instructor, then challenged me to fight for my half of our Kertati kara home.

My toiletries.

My laptop.

And the old photograph of my parents that Claire had never liked.

I left my wedding ring on the sideboard.

I was halfway there when my phone rang.

Unknown number.

I answered via the Bluetooth truck.

“Cole?”

“Who is this?”

“Derek.”

I Sighed.

“What do you want?”

“Do you think you’re going to leave?”

“She filed for divorce.”

“She called me crying.”

“That sounds like your problem.”

His voice hardened.

“You don’t take half that house.”

I pressed my grip on the steering wheel.

“That’s between me and Claire.

“No. You’re going to come to my gym.”

“Why?”

“Because I’m giving you a chance to prove you’re a man.”

I almost hung up.

Then he said something that made me stop.

“You fight me five minutes on Friday night. Five
minutes. If you survive, I will personally buy your half of the house.”
