I passed him the phone.
“Eleanor, leave the hospital.”
She laughed harshly.
“You can’t order me around.”
“No, but the hospital can enforce its visitor restrictions.”
“You think your money makes you untouchable?”
“Not even remotely.”
His eyes shifted toward Leo.
“Tonight has proved how little money matters when someone you love is in danger.”
She muttered something bitter.
Then the line went dead.
Chloe stared at her phone.
“I’ve never heard her sound that frightened.”
I looked toward the hospital entrance.
“She’s not frightened for Leo.”
David’s satellite phone rang seconds later.
He stepped into the hall, listened silently, and returned with an expression that made my stomach tighten.
“What happened?”
I asked.
He held the phone in his hand.
“My legal team located the guarantee.”
I felt my pulse hammer against my ribs.
“Is my name on it?”
“Yes.”
I waited.
David’s voice lowered.
