I glanced at David.
He stood perfectly still.
“Whatever financial problems you have existed before tonight.”
“You have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Then explain them to your attorney instead of shouting at my sister.”
Her tone became venomous.
“You’ve always been the weak daughter, Clara, and now you’re trying to destroy everything because Chloe finally has something beautiful.”
Chloe recoiled.
“Mom, stop.”
Eleanor ignored her.
“If you don’t fix this immediately, I’ll make sure everyone knows what kind of mother you really are.”
A chill passed through me.
“What does that mean?”
“It means people will hear how unstable you’ve become, and how your husband has isolated you from your family.”
My fingers curled into fists.
“Are you threatening my relationship with my son?”
“I’m telling you there are consequences for humiliating me.”
