Warning: Found a Pantry Moth in Your Home? Here’s What It Could Mean
Finding a small moth flying around your kitchen may seem like a minor annoyance, but it can sometimes be the first visible sign of a pantry infestation. If you have noticed one near your food, particularly around flour, rice, pasta, cereals, or other dry products, it is worth investigating before the problem has a chance to spread.
Pantry moths are small insects whose larvae feed on stored food. One of the most common species found in homes is the Indianmeal moth, a member of the Pyralidae family. Adult moths are usually small and grayish or reddish-brown, while the larvae are responsible for contaminating food.
Fortunately, finding a pantry moth does not mean your home is unsafe or unclean. These insects can enter even well-maintained kitchens, often arriving unnoticed inside packaged food.
