My Husband Mocked My Facial Hair After 20 Years of Marriage—Then Our Two Sons Taught Him What Respect Really Means

Graham swallowed.

“But I learned that response somewhere.”

Wade looked away.

Tobin spoke next.

“I don’t want to make someone I love afraid to tell me they’re hurt.”

“Neither do I,” Graham added.

Then he said something I knew Wade would remember.

“I love you, Dad. But I don’t want to treat my wife the way you treated Mom this morning.”

Wade stared at him.

The pizza was getting cold.

Finally, he looked toward the television.

“So we’re not watching the game?”

“Not tonight,” Graham said.

Tobin nodded.

“We don’t feel like it.”

My husband hadn’t just lost an argument.

He’d lost an evening his sons had wanted to spend with him.

And I wasn’t going to rescue him from that feeling.

Wade turned to me.

“Are you happy now?”

“No.”

“What more do you want?”

“I want you to understand why we’re sitting here.”
