My Husband Mocked My Facial Hair After 20 Years of Marriage—Then Our Two Sons Taught Him What Respect Really Means

“I get it. I shouldn’t have mentioned your mustache.”

“That isn’t all you did.”

He sighed.

“Fine. I’m sorry everyone got so upset.”

I shook my head.

“That’s not an apology.”

“What?”

“You’re apologizing for our reaction, not for what you said.”

He looked toward our sons.

Neither spoke.

I took a breath.

“Wade, I leaned over to kiss you because I love you. You acted disgusted by me. Then you made me feel foolish for being hurt.”

His eyes dropped.

“I wasn’t trying to hurt you.”

“But you did.”

I continued.

“And the worst part is that I knew what you’d say when I told you. It means I’ve gotten used to you dismissing my feelings.”

Wade frowned.

“That’s not fair.”

“Do you remember the blue dress I changed out of before Beverly’s birthday dinner?”

He blinked.

“Barely.”

“You said I looked like I was trying too hard. Tobin remembered it, too.”
