My 10-year-old son spent two weeks making Halloween decorations for our front porch #2

“What people?”

I stared at her. “You can’t be serious.”

“I’ve won that contest four years in a row! I’ve spent hundreds of dollars getting everything ready this year.”

“And you’re worried about losing to a ten-year-old?”

“They don’t appreciate how much effort I put into my displays!”

I shook my head.

An idea crossed my mind.

“Owen wasn’t even trying to beat you. He was proud of making something himself.”

Elaine folded her arms. “If he can’t handle a little Halloween fun, perhaps he’s too young for the competition.”

I looked at the sheet, then at her expensive decorations next door.

Suddenly, an idea crossed my mind.

“Perhaps he’s too young.”

“You know what, Elaine? You’re right about one thing.”

She looked suspicious.

“What’s that?”

“Halloween should be fun.”

I turned toward the house, smiling to myself.

“She was helping me!”
