My 10-year-old son spent two weeks making Halloween decorations for our front porch #2

I whispered my plan.

He shook his head.

“Well, we had a very special tradition for people who played mean tricks on us.”

I whispered my plan into his ear. His mouth fell open.

“MOM! Are you serious?”

“Completely.”

My boy looked genuinely happy.

“But aren’t we going to get in trouble?”

“That’s why we’ll have to be very careful.”

He burst out laughing.

For the first time in days, my little boy looked genuinely happy.

The following evening, we waited until my husband had gone upstairs.

I picked up two large bags.

Owen appeared wearing a black hoodie and sneakers.

“Mom, do I look suspicious?”

“Extremely. Try not to look so excited.”

I picked up two large bags I’d prepared earlier.

My husband came downstairs just as we reached the door.

“Do I want to know?”

“Why do you two look like you’re about to rob a bank?”
