Someone else summed it up more simply:Music & Audio
“Just Miley now. The surname officially clocked off.”
Others viewed the change as a sign that something major may be coming musically.
“Dropping the last name completely? Oh she is coming to end the entire industry once again,” one fan wrote, predicting that Miley could be preparing a major new project.
Another called dropping a surname “just for a new era” an “iconic move.”
For now, however, those remain fan theories.
Miley has not officially explained whether “MILEY” signals a permanent professional name change or simply the branding attached to a new artistic chapter.
But there is something especially fitting about the possibility.
Miley has reinvented her name before.
She was born Destiny Hope Cyrus on November 23, 1992.
Her parents, Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus, chose the name because they believed their daughter was destined to bring hope into the world.
But as a young child, she smiled so frequently that the family began calling her “Smiley.”
That eventually became “Miley.”
Tish previously explained the nickname during an appearance on the “Tea Time with Raven & Miranda” podcast.
“She always smiled when she was little, so we would call her smiley Miley, and it just stuck,” she recalled.
Eventually, the nickname became much more than a family term of affection.
In 2008, when she was 15, Destiny Hope Cyrus legally changed her name to Miley Cyrus.How-To, DIY & Expert Content
By then, millions already knew her as Miley thanks to the enormous success of Hannah Montana.
Billy Ray has spoken several times about the meaning behind the name she was given at birth.
“She’s a giver,” he told Us Weekly in 2020. “She believes that we’re all put here for a reason, and that’s to give back to our fellow man.”
He explained that this belief was part of the reason he and Tish had chosen the name Destiny Hope.
“Destiny Hope Cyrus is her name — at least it used to be,” he said.
“But no matter what you call her, she still is Destiny Hope.”
Billy Ray described his daughter as “a ray of sunshine” and “a special human being” with “a great heart.”
He had given a similar explanation years earlier, saying Miley smiled constantly as a baby and that “Smiley” gradually evolved into “Miley.”
Even before she was born, he said, he felt it was her destiny to bring hope to people.
