“You stepped away from a defenseless newborn baby in a hospital room,” I reminded her firmly. “You looked at a innocent child and declared her a mistake.”
“I am not here to try and take her away from you,” Samantha pleaded, wiping the mascara streaks from her pale cheeks. “I just want the chance to be her aunt… I just want my sister back so we can be a real family again.”
“We were a real family standing in that hospital delivery room three years ago,” I replied, my voice dripping with quiet sorrow. “And you chose to turn your back and walk out the door.”
“Please, Alison, just let me see her for five minutes,” she begged, reaching her hand out toward my arm. “She is my biological blood!”
I stepped backward, pulling my arm out of her reach. “Go home, Samantha, and live with the consequences of the choices you made.”
