Her face changed.
“You’ve carried this around all week?”
I nodded.
She squeezed my shoulder.
“I’m sorry.”
Ryan sat down.
I looked at him.
“For four months, I have been caring for Emma while wondering why my own husband barely looks at me.”
“We’re both adjusting.”
“No.”
My voice sharpened.
“I’ve been adjusting.”
He looked at me.
“Why have I been doing almost everything alone?”
His expression finally changed.
“I didn’t realize.”
“You saw me exhausted.”
“I know.”
“You saw me struggling.”
“I know.”
“You just didn’t change anything.”
“I can help more.”
“Emma needs her father.”
I paused.
“And I need a husband who respects me.”
Ryan reached for my hand.
“Please let me fix this.”
I stepped back.
“Changing diapers won’t erase what you said about me.”
Nobody argued with that.
Tess stood.
“We should probably leave.”
Olive hugged me before she went.
