Tess said nothing to Ryan.
But the way she looked at Glen told me he was going to have a very long night.
When the door closed, Ryan remained on the couch.
For a while, neither of us spoke.
Then he asked:
“Are you leaving?”
“I don’t know what’s going to happen to our marriage.”
His face tightened.
“What do you want me to do?”
“Stay somewhere else for a few nights.”
He looked toward the stairs.
“And Emma?”
“She stays here.”
“I want to see her.”
“You will.”
He nodded.
“I can stay with Glen.”
Before he packed, I stopped him.
“There’s something else.”
He turned around.
“I’m not hosting every family dinner anymore.”
He said nothing.
“I’m not taking every night with Emma while you sleep.”
He lowered his eyes.
“If we try to repair this marriage, you become a real partner.”
“I understand.”
