I straightened our little sign.
“Ready, Chef?”
Lily smiled.
“Ready.”
Our first customer was a woman wearing a witch’s hat.
“Oh, these pumpkin cupcakes are adorable! How much?”
“Three dollars each,” I said. “And believe me, you’re getting a bargain.”
The woman laughed.
“They look so realistic!”
“They’re buttercream,” Lily added quietly. “I use a very thin piping tip.”
“Well, I’ll take four!”
A few minutes later, a man pointed at our chocolate bats.
“How did you make those wings?”
“That’s Lily’s little engineering miracle,” I explained. “She went through six batches of chocolate before figuring out how to make them thin without breaking.”
“Five,” Lily corrected.
“The sixth batch was mine. I ate the evidence.”
The man chuckled and bought three bats.
Soon, a little boy pressed his nose against our display.
“Why’s that ghost so angry?”
Before I could answer, Lily leaned forward.
