“We Took This Photo Just One Day Before My Husband Told Me, ‘If You Ever Find Out What I Really Did for Your Sister, You Will Never Forgive Me.’ The Next Day, My Sister Appeared at Our Door, Holding a 35-Year-Old Letter…”

I remained silent for a long time.

At that moment, my phone rang.

It was Emily.

I couldn’t bring myself to answer.

Linda approached me.

“Mary, there’s something else you need to know.”

I looked at her wearily.

“What else could there possibly be?”

“Emily already knows the truth.”

I froze.

“What?”

“She found me three months ago. We met. And she was the one who asked me to come here today.”

A few minutes later, the doorbell rang again.

Emily was standing on the doorstep.

Her eyes were filled with tears.

I was terrified that she would now want to leave me.

But she ran toward me and wrapped her arms tightly around me.

“Mom, I know everything. But you are my mother. That will never change.”

I began to cry.

Then she turned toward Linda.

“I want to get to know you too, if you’re willing.”
