The night before my wedding I heard my maid of honour through the hotel wall saying they'd pour wine on my dress and lose the rings. I recorded four minutes of it with my phone against the connecting door.

I am a project manager. I have run about forty of them. And at some point in those forty minutes a part of my head that has nothing to do with feelings simply came on and started working.

At thirteen minutes past two I messaged my brother Paddy, my cousin Nuala, the planner, and the hotel duty manager.

At twenty past I booked a second bridal suite in Nuala's name on the other side of that building.

And at twenty-six minutes past two I messaged Jory.

I need to change some things before tomorrow. Quietly. Please don't react yet.

He came back inside a minute.

Whatever you need. Tell me what to do.
PART 2 — SATURDAY

I am going to do the Saturday quickly, because everybody wants it and it is not the part that matters.

The dress went at ten past three in the morning. Paddy and Nuala walked it down the fire stairs to the new suite and I did my hair in a different room from the one on the schedule.
