Part 2: My son h.i.t me 30 times in front of his wife… so the next morning, while he sat in his office, I sold the house he thought was his.

Of course she had.

I smiled despite everything.

“Sit down.”

Ana did.

Then she looked at my bruises.

Her eyes filled.

“I'm sorry.”

“Don't.”

“I should've told you sooner.”

Another person.

Another secret.

“How much sooner?”

“Six months.”

I stared.

Ana had noticed Trevor accessing records he did not need.

At first she assumed I authorized it.

Then Kristen began calling.

Not through company channels.

Directly.

Asking where original operating agreements were stored.

Which banks held reserve accounts.

Whether I signed documents digitally or by hand.

Ana gave vague answers.

Then Kristen asked:

“Has Gloria seemed forgetful lately?”

Ana said no.

Kristen laughed.

“You're loyal.”

Ana told me:

“That was when I knew something was wrong.”

She reported it to Martin.

My chest tightened.

“What did Martin say?”

“That Trevor was doing succession planning with your knowledge.”

I closed my eyes.

Again.

One lie inside another.

Ana did not believe him entirely.
