Part 2: My son h.i.t me 30 times in front of his wife… so the next morning, while he sat in his office, I sold the house he thought was his.

Not returned yet.

But visible.

The rest would take longer.

Martin's cowardice helped create the crime.

His final panic helped preserve the money.

Both.

I agreed to meet him once.

Police-approved.

Lawyer present.

He entered Daniel's conference room and looked twenty years older.

“Gloria.”

I said nothing.

He sat.

His hands trembled.

“Elaine died twelve years ago.”

“I remember.”

“I never told her what I did.”

“This is not about Elaine.”

“I know.”

“Then don't hide behind a dead woman.”

His face collapsed.

Good.

He nodded.

“I stole company money.”

“Yes.”

“I put it back.”

“Yes.”

“And then I let Kristen use my fear of you to help her steal more.”

“Yes.”

He cried.

“I thought you would hate me.”

“I do right now.”

He flinched.

I continued.

“That doesn't mean I would have destroyed you fifteen years ago.”

He looked down.

“I know that now.”

“No.”

I said.

“You don't.”
