Part 2: My son h.i.t me 30 times in front of his wife… so the next morning, while he sat in his office, I sold the house he thought was his.

Successful.

And he looked strangely like Henry when he smiled.

I remembered telling Daniel that his brother reminded me of my late husband.

Daniel had laughed.

Now I understood why that memory frightened me.

Trevor began crying again.

"Mother, Nathan has been looking for his birth family for years."

My heart hammered.

"And?"

A long pause.

Then Trevor whispered:

"He found you."

I stopped breathing.

"What?"

"He knows you might be his mother."

My hands shook.

"Then why didn't he contact me?"

Trevor's voice broke.

"Because Malcolm told him you gave him away."

The room went silent.

I stared at Henry's photograph.

At the documents.

At the handwriting of the man I'd loved.

Then my phone vibrated.

A photograph appeared.

It showed Nathan Pierce standing outside Cedarline Capital.

Beside him was Eleanor.

And between them stood Malcolm Whitmore.

The photograph was dated three days before Trevor assaulted me.

Beneath it was a message from an unknown number.
