Part 2: My son h.i.t me 30 times in front of his wife… so the next morning, while he sat in his office, I sold the house he thought was his.

Daniel Pierce.

My heart began pounding.

"How closely connected?"

Grant opened another document.

"His firm prepared some of the corporate paperwork."

I stared at her.

"That doesn't necessarily mean he knew the money was stolen."

"No," she agreed. "But it creates a serious conflict that we need to investigate."

I looked down.

For weeks, I'd been relying on Daniel.

I'd given him access to documents.

Confidential financial information.

Details of my injuries.

Everything.

Then I remembered something.

The River Oaks property.

The house I'd sold to make Trevor leave.

Daniel had arranged the transaction.

I looked up sharply.

"Detective, I need to know who bought my house."

She studied me.

"Do you have the sale documents?"

I nodded.

"Yes."

"Then let's examine them."

***

The buyer was listed as a company called Redcrest Residential Holdings.

I'd barely noticed the name when Daniel presented the contract.

He told me the offer was reasonable.
