Bennett.
Ryan's surname.
Someone had apparently prepared false identity paperwork to make the little boy part of Ryan's family.
I forwarded everything to the authorities.
Then my phone rang again.
Unknown number.
I answered.
A woman spoke quietly.
"Mrs. Bennett?"
"Yes?"
"My name is Teresa Moore."
I stopped breathing.
Elliot's caregiver.
"Teresa, where are you?"
Her voice shook.
"At the airport."
I stood.
"Is Elliot with you?"
"No."
My stomach dropped.
"Then why are you there?"
She began crying.
"Because I followed them."
I gripped the phone.
"Teresa, please tell me the children are safe."
A long silence followed.
Then she whispered, "Claire, there's something about Ryan you still don't know."
My heart hammered.
"What?"
"He wasn't planning to take only the three children."
I couldn't breathe.
"Who else?"
She swallowed.
"Your mother."
I stared toward Mom's hospital bed.
She looked at me, confused.
"What do you mean?"
Teresa's voice trembled.
