Part 2: Before my husband passed away, he asked me to deliver a sealed letter to a woman I'd never met — after she read the first line, she looked at me and asked, "Did he tell you everything?"

*But I also know you have something to tell me.*

The next sentence made my hands go cold.

*Rebecca says you were there the night she disappeared.*

I stopped breathing.

Zane had always claimed he first became involved when he stopped at Henry's accident.

But Henry's letter suggested Zane had known Rebecca before that night.

Before the highway.

Before her father died.

I kept reading.

*Meet me at the old Millbrook bridge. Bring the original records.*

*And don't lie to me again.*

The date was the night Henry died.

I stared at the paper.

Zane hadn't simply encountered a dying stranger by coincidence.

He had arranged to meet him.

***

The next morning, investigators found Zane.

He was alive.

He'd checked into a small motel under his own name and had apparently been preparing to contact the police.

Detective Collins arranged to interview him.

I didn't see him immediately.

I wasn't ready.
