Part 2: Before my husband passed away, he asked me to deliver a sealed letter to a woman I'd never met — after she read the first line, she looked at me and asked, "Did he tell you everything?"

For a moment, neither of us could speak.

Then she whispered, "Thank you."

I began crying.

Because I didn't know whether to thank her.

Or apologize.

Or tell her that neither of us should ever have been forced into this moment.

Before we left, Rebecca asked Emily to open a small drawer beside her bed.

Inside was a folded drawing.

A little girl stood beneath a yellow sun.

Beside her was a woman with long dark hair.

Above them, in childish handwriting, were the words:

**WHEN I FIND MY MOM.**

Emily stared at it.

"You drew this?"

Rebecca nodded.

"After they took you."

My heart tightened.

Emily carefully unfolded the paper.

On the back was a name.

**CEDAR VALE MATERNITY HOME.**

I looked toward Catherine.

She had gone pale.

"What is it?" I asked.

Catherine swallowed.

"That's the name of the organization Henry was investigating before he died."

A chill moved through me.
