My Husband’s Secretary Said His “Wife and Son” Were Upstairs—But the Truth Was More Complicated Than Betrayal

Not tonight.

“I had every right to ask why my husband’s secretary told our daughter that his wife and son were waiting upstairs.”

His face crumpled for a second.

“Mila heard that?”

“Yes.”

He turned on Bianca.

“How could you say that in front of her?”

Bianca’s eyes flashed.

“You told me Elena knew. You told me she wouldn’t come. You told me Claire was family.”

“I never told you to humiliate my daughter.”

“No,” Bianca said. “You just gave me the lie and expected me to deliver it politely.”

Adrian looked away.

Claire touched Noah’s shoulder.

“We should leave.”

“No,” I said softly.

She stopped.

“I’m not asking you to stay for him. I’m asking because I need to understand who Noah is.”

Claire’s face revealed something deeper than embarrassment.

Fear.

Adrian stepped between us.

“Elena, don’t.”

That was when I knew the obvious answer might not be the true one.
