My Husband’s Secretary Said His “Wife and Son” Were Upstairs—But the Truth Was More Complicated Than Betrayal

Claire closed her eyes briefly.

“Because Adrian showed him pictures.”

I turned to my husband.

“You showed him pictures of us?”

Adrian’s jaw tightened.

“This conversation should happen privately.”

“There are no private conversations left.”

Priya stepped inside and closed the door.

“Adrian, the board has received documents involving Northline Advisory. The company’s financing partners have initiated a compliance review.”

He stared at her.

“What?”

“You heard me.”

He looked at Bianca.

“What did you do?”

Her face hardened.

“Nothing.”

“You were the only person who knew the arrangements.”

“Apparently not.”

Adrian picked up his phone.

“Daniel can fix this.”

“No,” Priya said. “Daniel cannot override lenders or the board.”

He looked at me then.

Understanding arrived slowly.

“Your family.”

“My family didn’t create the invoices.”

His expression changed from confusion to anger.

“You called Marcus.”

“Yes.”

“You had no right.”

The sentence was so familiar that, in another moment, it might have drawn me into our old pattern: Adrian accusing, me explaining, both of us avoiding the truth beneath the argument.
