“I know a beautiful forest,” he said. “It’s peaceful there. I’d love for it to be just the two of us.”
I agreed. That morning, we prepared some food, packed two folding chairs and a small table, and set off. Robert drove.
But the deeper we traveled into the forest, the more nervous he became. Several times, he stopped the car, stepped outside,
and carefully studied the trees.
“Robert, are we lost?”
“No. Everything has just changed so much.”
Finally, we reached a small clearing. An enormous old oak tree stood there. Robert remained motionless in front of it for a
long time. His face was so pale that I began to worry.
“Sweetheart, are you all right?”
He nodded.
“Yes. I think I’ve finally found it.”
“Found what?”
But he didn’t answer. We unfolded the table, had lunch, and took several pictures together.
Robert smiled for the photographs, but his eyes kept drifting toward the oak tree.
