Everything felt ordinary.
Until I leaned over to kiss my husband.
Wade pulled his face away.
“Ugh, Maren. Not with that mustache.”
The kitchen went silent.
I instinctively touched my upper lip. There were a few fine hairs there, something I’d become more aware of as I’d gotten older.
Wade made a face.
“It’s disgusting.”
“Dad,” Graham said sharply.
But Wade continued.
“When we first started dating, you actually cared about looking nice for me.”
Heat rushed into my cheeks. I wanted to say something cutting, but instead, I stood there holding the coffee pot.
“Wade, that was hurtful.”
He sighed.
“Don’t be so sensitive. I’m your husband. I should be able to tell you these things.”
Tobin pushed his plate away.
“There’s a difference between telling someone something and being mean.”
Wade glared at him.
“Stay out of it.”
Then he turned back to me.
