My name is Mary, and I’m 67 years old. My husband, George, is 72. We’ve been married for 45 years, and until last month, I was convinced that no matter what happened in our family, our only son would never turn his back on us.
But I was wrong.
It all started on an ordinary Sunday when my husband said he was tired of spending his entire life living for other people.
For the past five years, we’d been living with our son, Daniel, and his wife, Sarah. They had bought the house, while we helped look after the grandchildren and occasionally took care of household chores.
Daniel and Sarah worked almost every day. They had two children and had been saving money for years, hoping to finally pay off a significant portion of their mortgage and ease their family’s financial burden.
They kept their savings in a separate bank account that George also had access to. Years earlier, our son had trusted him with access to that account in case of emergencies.
