He paused.
“I took that photograph with you yesterday because I wanted you to become the first public face of our new foundation. Someone who knows from personal experience how difficult it is to need help.”
I could no longer speak.
I simply stepped forward and hugged him.
The man I had been afraid of was actually preparing to change my life.
Later that day, I stood in front of the office entrance again.
This time, I read the entire message on the poster.
And I smiled.
Three months later, my mother was feeling much better, and our foundation had already helped 47 families.
Now, whenever I look at that photograph of Richard and me, I don’t remember the fear I felt that morning.
Instead, I remember his words:
“Sometimes the greatest surprises begin at the very moment you think you’ve lost everything.”

What would you think if your boss promised to triple your salary in exchange for taking a picture together, and the next morning you found your photograph displayed on the office door? 😱
