Today, Linda is one of my closest friends. We sing together every week, and Emily often visits with her children.
Jake has a real girlfriend now, a sweet young woman his own age named Sarah.
And although I still remind him how foolish his little scheme was, I understand what he was desperately trying to do.
Last week, I visited David’s grave.
For the first time in twelve years, I didn’t arrive feeling only sadness.
I placed fresh flowers beside his headstone and whispered:
“David, I’m happy again. And now I know that’s exactly what you would have wanted.”
I returned home smiling.
Because sometimes the stranger who enters your life and frightens you the most isn’t there to take something away.
Sometimes they’re there to return something you thought you’d lost forever.
The courage to live, love, and be happy again. ❤️
