My 10-year-old son spent two weeks making Halloween decorations for our front porch #2

“There’s nobody coming.”

“Why didn’t you tell me someone was coming to Owen’s window at night?”

She sighed. “Because there’s nobody coming to his window. He’s a child with an overactive imagination.”

“Then why did you tell him ghosts were attracted to his decorations?”

“I was trying to comfort him.”

“By making him think a ghost was haunting our house?”

“Don’t blame me.”

Elaine rolled her eyes.

“Honestly, you’re making such a fuss over nothing. The decorations are gone, and he’ll sleep better now.”

I crossed my arms.

“He spent two weeks making those decorations. I’m not letting him give up something he loves because he’s scared.”

Elaine rolled her eyes.

Elaine’s expression hardened.

“Well, don’t blame me if putting them back causes more trouble.”

She walked out before I could answer.

I stood in the kitchen, thinking about Owen’s terrified face. I didn’t believe in ghosts. But I wasn’t going to ignore someone knocking on my son’s window, either.
