Miley Cyrus has been navigating one of the most emotional periods of her life following the death of her beloved godmother, Dolly Parton.

But because it arrived in the same week Miley was mourning Dolly’s death, some critics accused her of moving too quickly back into promotion.
Others strongly disagreed — arguing that continuing to create and release music may be exactly what Dolly would have encouraged her to do.
Miley had already made clear how deeply Dolly’s death affected her.
In an emotional tribute shared on social media, she wrote, “The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share.”
“Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts,” Miley continued.
She then revealed what she believed Dolly would have wanted from her during such a painful moment.
“What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong,” she wrote.
“I have an angel by my side. I always have.”
Perhaps most significantly, Miley revealed that one of her final conversations with Dolly had been about “music and metamorphosis.”
“I will always love her and want to make her proud,” Miley continued. “My heart breaks for the world, her family and friends who will miss her deeply.”
“We’re in this loss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things.”
Those words would soon take on new meaning.

The 33-year-old singer stripped her branding down to one name — “Miley” — and shared details of her upcoming album.
“Music takes hold of us,” she wrote while introducing the project. “We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on.”
She described music as “powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong,” capable of holding both joy and heartbreak.
