I carried a baby for my sister and her husband, but the moment they saw the little girl, they broke down and said, “This is not the child we wanted.” Right then, I decided to teach them a lesson they would never forget.

The moment his eyes registered my presence and fell onto the car seat in my hand, his face hardened into a scowl. “You are being remarkably foolish by bringing that child to our front porch, Alison.”

“I was not left with much of a choice after you left her behind like trash,” I retorted sharply, pushing past him directly into the spacious foyer. “You abandoned an innocent baby, and you abandoned me after I gave you my body for nine months.”

Samantha emerged from the adjacent kitchen holding a glass of wine, appearing entirely unbothered as if she had not spent a single second grieving her lost child.

“I want a complete and honest explanation right now,” I demanded, setting the baby carrier down safely near the hallway table. “I do not want corporate excuses or clinic rumors; I want the absolute truth.”

Samantha glanced nervously toward her husband, displaying the exact same evasive facial shift I had seen a thousand times during our childhood whenever she was crafting a lie. “Alison, you need to understand that this situation is extremely complicated from a financial perspective.”
