I Asked My Coworker to Be My Date to My Ex-Husband’s Wedding—What Happened Next Changed Everything

He did four months of unpaid evening work on a company he has no connection to. He carried the result round in his car for eleven weeks waiting for me to leave him a door.

And then he stood next to a woman at her ex-husband's wedding, in a borrowed role, and let that man say what he said about him in front of a hundred people without so much as blinking.

I do not know what to do with any of that yet.

I am thirty-eight and I have been divorced for two years and I spent most of those two years establishing, to an audience of one, that I was still worth looking at. I am not in a fit state to be deciding anything about anybody.

I have not pretended to that man that I do, which took one conversation of about four minutes and which was the most honest thing I have said out loud in two years.
