“Every Time I Left the House, My Husband Closed the Kitchen Door and Told My 8-Year-Old Daughter, ‘Good Girl, Just Like That. Keep Moving Your Hands. Don’t Stop. A Little More, Until You Finish.’ When I Asked My Daughter What They Were Doing While I Was Away, She Whispered Fearfully, ‘Mommy, John Told Me Not to Tell You Anything.’”

My name is Mary, and I’m 54 years old. I’ve been married twice, but I never imagined that because of my second husband, I would one day find myself secretly watching my own daughter.

My daughter, Emily, was only eight years old. She was from my first marriage. Her father passed away when she was just three.

For five years, I raised my daughter alone until I met John.

John was 62, a quiet, hardworking man who had once owned a small workshop. He had no children of his own, but from the very beginning, he treated Emily like his own daughter.

At least, that’s what I believed.

Everything changed eight months after our wedding.

At first, I noticed that my daughter had started behaving strangely.

Whenever I returned from work, Emily would rush to wash her hands. Sometimes her fingers seemed so tired that she could barely hold a spoon.
