Home Entertainment Game Technology Advertisement Part 2: For eight years, my parents made me leave the house every time my brother brought his fiance over; Mom said, “She comes from a good family, don’t embarrass us”; Dad added, “Just disappear for the weekend”; I did; then one weekend, I never came back; it took them four years to find out where I went.

The room went silent.

"And Ruth found out."

I covered my mouth.

"Did she stop them?"

"Yes."

Tears filled my eyes.

Then Grant continued.

"But there's something else on the recording."

My heart hammered.

"What?"

"Your grandmother says she knows why Nina was frightened."

I stared at Ruth's photograph.

Grant paused.

Then whispered:

"Because Nina had discovered a child hidden inside your parents' house."

My blood turned cold.

I looked at Ben.

He was staring at me.

"A child?"

Grant nodded, though I couldn't see him.

"A boy."

My hands began trembling.

The memory returned.

A frightened boy sitting on my bedroom floor.

My father saying:

*If you love him, you'll keep quiet.*

I could barely speak.

"Detective, who was he?"

Grant hesitated.

"That's what we're trying to establish."

Then he said something that made my heart stop.

"Stacey, your parents filed paperwork describing you as deceased on the same day they registered a private guardianship arrangement for an unnamed minor."
