Home Entertainment Game Technology Advertisement Part 2: For eight years, my parents made me leave the house every time my brother brought his fiance over; Mom said, “She comes from a good family, don’t embarrass us”; Dad added, “Just disappear for the weekend”; I did; then one weekend, I never came back; it took them four years to find out where I went.

Not the girl my parents claimed had died.

The girl who was alive.

And who had lost eight years anyway.

Then the investigation uncovered the missing piece.

Detective Grant called us into his office.

He placed a photograph on the table.

It showed a young woman lying beneath a hospital blanket.

Her face was partly visible.

I recognized the short dark hair.

Nina.

Grant sat across from me.

"Stacey, we're working to confirm the identity of the person recorded as deceased under your name."

My throat tightened.

"Was it Nina?"

He nodded carefully.

"Several records point to that possibility."

I stared at him.

"Why would anyone do that?"

He opened another folder.

"Your father's insurance policy had been increased several months before your hospitalization."

My hands began shaking.

"The four hundred thousand?"

"Yes."

Then he showed me another document.

A payment record.

My father had transferred money to a consulting company connected to Dr. Byrne.
