Fifty Dollars to Film Her

“Who are you filming for now?”

Diane’s mouth hung open.

Mark stepped forward.

“This is my house too.”

I pointed at the gate.

“You handed her the phone. You watched me get filmed. You blocked my calls, you took my pills, you made me apologize. And two minutes ago you told me not to make a scene in front of the kid.”

“I can explain.”

“You take your mother and you go.”

“Nora.”

“Now.”

I didn’t move.

“The police are standing right there. Your boss is standing right there. Tyler’s standing right there. So explain it to them. Explain how you sat on that video of me on the ground until tonight.”

Mark looked at the officers. Then at the cars parked outside the gate.

His boss was standing at the edge of the crowd. He’d already put his cup down.

Tyler was pressed against my side, nose red, and he didn’t call for his dad.
