Fifty Dollars to Film Her

I walked over to the officer.

He was still holding the phone.

“That’s our phone. The video’s in the Bennett Family group chat. She’s the one who posted it.”

I pointed at Diane.

The officer hesitated, looked down at the screen.

“You sure you want to handle this now?”

“I don’t need you to handle it. I need everybody to watch.”

He put the phone in my hand.

I opened Bennett Family.

The video was still there.

Diane’s footage. Me on the grass, ankle bleeding, camera shaking.

Her voice came out of the speaker.

“Look. She’s faking again.”

I held the phone up so the whole yard could see the screen.

“This is the version she wanted the whole family to see.”

I hit delete.

The video disappeared from the group.

Then I opened Diane’s chat history and deleted the copies she’d sent to three relatives, and turned the screen toward her.
