The same woman her husband had insisted meant nothing.
The same woman whose messages had caused arguments.
The same woman he said she was only worried about because pregnancy was making her emotional.
She read the name once.
Then again.
Then a third time, hoping her mind had somehow created the letters wrong.
It hadn’t.
Before she could decide whether to walk away, demand answers, or confront him immediately, a doctor approached her carefully.
The doctor did not speak like someone preparing her for a simple accident update.
He told her to take a moment. He warned her that what she was about to see might shock her.
With her hand still resting over her belly, she followed him toward the room.
The curtain was the last barrier between the life she thought she knew and the truth waiting behind it.
When it opened, she saw her husband and Jessica together.
Her body reacted before her mind could catch up. The strength that had carried her through the drive disappeared, and she dropped down, one hand reaching for support while the other protected her unborn child.
She could barely speak.
She looked from one person to the other, searching for an explanation that made sense.
Why were they together?
Why had nobody told her more?
Why did the doctor look like he was about to reveal something bigger than betrayal?
The doctor moved closer and lowered his voice.
“There’s another detail you need to know,” he said.
And in that moment, she realized the name on the clipboard might not have been the full truth.
The accident had brought her to the hospital.
But something else had brought all three of them into that room.
