Chapter 2: A thirty-year-old man began regularly visiting my elderly neighbor. But one day, when I stepped inside her home, I discovered something terrifying.

Several signatures had been crossed out.

Beside them were dates.

I recognized the pattern immediately.

The dates corresponded to when the women had supposedly surrendered control of their investments.

Then I found something that made my stomach drop.

A payment schedule.

Millions of dollars had been transferred through companies connected to Northbridge Capital.

And under the heading AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE was a name I recognized.

VICTOR PRICE.

The current managing director.

The man whose sons had been targeting elderly women.

My mother began crying.

“Your father discovered everything.”

I turned another page.

There was a handwritten note.

"If they find this ledger, Emily will be next."

My throat tightened.

My father had written those words twenty-six years earlier.

Long before Alex entered Mrs. Wilson's life.

***

Detective Harris arrived an hour later.

He examined the ledger carefully.

“This could be important evidence,” he said. “We'll need to authenticate it.”

My mother nodded.
