The white fabric reminded me of fresh beginnings, while the blue details brought to mind peaceful skies after a storm. Every little imperfection reminded me that life could be beautiful without being perfect.
When my daughter visited and found me sewing again, she asked why the dress mattered so much.
I put down my needle and explained.
“For most of my life, I’ve worried about doing what everyone else needed. I’ve been a mother, a wife, a worker, and someone my family could depend on. Those roles have meant everything to me, but I’ve also had dreams of my own.”
She listened quietly.
“I don’t need a lavish wedding or anyone’s approval. I just want to enjoy this moment. I want to wear something that makes me feel special and celebrate the person I’ve chosen to share my life with.”
Her expression softened.
“I never thought about it that way,” she admitted.
