At 72, I’m Getting Married Again—And I Refuse to Let Anyone Tell Me I’m Too Old to Dream

I never imagined I would be planning another wedding at seventy-two. Yet here I am, choosing decorations, preparing for the ceremony, and making a wedding dress that makes me feel beautiful.

I’m not trying to look younger or pretend that time hasn’t passed. I’m simply happy to have found love again, and I want to celebrate it.

My daughter, however, didn’t quite understand.

When she saw the dress I had purchased, she looked at me with surprise.

“Mom, why spend money on a wedding dress at your age? This is your third marriage. Why not wear something you already own?”

I knew she was concerned about my finances, but her words still hurt. She saw the dress as an unnecessary expense. To me, it represented something much more meaningful.

My first marriage began when I was nineteen. I wore my mother’s old wedding gown because buying a new one wasn’t possible. I was young, expecting a baby, and convinced I knew what the future held. Life eventually taught me otherwise.
